Oscar Niemeyer

Good evening,

How many of you knows what is a capital of Brazil? Is it Rio, San-Paulo or ..? Shame upon me but I thought it is Rio... I was wrong, but partly)) Rio de Janeiro was a capital of Brazil until 21st April 1960 when it's President Juscelino Kubitchek de Oliveira decided to move capital to a new town - Brasilia.

Brasilia was build fare away from political centres in the heart of the central part of Brazil. Most of public buildings of new capital were designed by one romantic and idealistic person who wanted to build better world, by Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer

Niemeyer believed that architecture has to be beautiful and surprise people, to generate positive emotions. If it doesn't, it is uninteresting repetitive. He wanted people to be brothers and the human-being to be respected.

Let's take a look at some of his projects:
The Niteroi Contemporary Art Museum

National Congress, Brasilia

Cathedral, Brasilia

Inside of Cathedral , Brasilia

San Francisco de Assis Church, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Park of Three Powers: Congress, President and Supreme Court. Brasilia
Guess what would future archaeologist think looking at this sculpture...that people finally met living beings from other planet or they came to help us build this town?)) For me actually they really look like UFO.

And finally should be mentioned the most important for all Brazilians object (after statue of Jesus in Rio off cause) - it is Sambadrom.
